BEST TIPS FOR WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

VEGETABLE POHA

PREPARATION TIME:  Around 30 minutes for 4 persons

INGREDIENTS:

Onion (1 medium sized, chopped lengthwise)
Tomato (1 medium sized, finely chopped)
Assorted vegetables like cabbage, carrots, peas,
cauliflower and capsicum (1 cup finely chopped)
Green chillies (2 finely chopped)
Ginger (1 teaspoon finely chopped)
Lemon (1 squeezed)
Poha (2 cups, washed and soaked)
Mustard seeds ½ teaspoon
A pinch of asafoetida
Salt as per taste
Chilli powder ½ teaspoon
Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder ¼ teaspoon
Mustard oil around 1 tablespoon

RECIPE:

Take a pan and put it on high flame. Heat up the oil. Once the oil is heated up, put the mustard seeds into it along with the asafoetida and let the seeds crackle a bit. Now fry the onion in the oil till it gets translucent. Add chopped ginger and green chillies and sauté them too for few seconds and after that add all of your assorted vegetables into the pan and sauté it for a minute. After a minute, add a little salt and stir the veggies and cover the pan with a lid for 2 minutes. Put the flame on low here on this point so that the veggies will soften up without getting burnt. Now open the lid and stir the vegetables again and check, if the veggies are still not soft enough, cover them again for another minute. Now add soaked poha into it along with all the spices and give it a good mix. Now add the finely chopped tomatoes into it at this point and switch the flame on the high and stir the poha so that the tomatoes also get a little bit soft. We don’t have to cook the tomatoes too much. Switch off the flame at this point and add the lemon juice in it and mix it quickly. Your healthy poha is ready. Serve it hot with some roasted peanuts rather than fried peanuts.

Quantity:

For weight loss, a medium sized plate full is accurate along with some black coffee or some fruit tea like apple tea or pomegranate tea is advised. White sugar must be avoided as it will create many problems to your health. Use a bit of natural jaggery powder if you are unable to have black coffee as it is but don’t sweeten your green tea or fruit tea.
For weight maintenance, a medium sized plate full is good enough with some more peanuts along with a cup (150 ml) of milk tea or coffee with 1 teaspoon full of jaggery powder as it will not make you feel lethargic and also warm you up as natural jaggery is warm in nature. Avoid white sugar.
For weight gain, a medium sized plate full is good. Add some more peanuts and 25 gm of paneer in it along with a medium cup (200 ml) of milk tea/coffee. Try avoiding white sugar and use jaggery instead as per your taste. You can also use boiled soyawadi instead of paneer if you like.
